It took me a long time to add this one — it feels too unhealthy: sugary, processed, etc.
But when I think of a special treat for a visiting friend, or when I find myself looking for halloween candy to hand out (with the idea that I might be stuck with leftovers), or something for Christmas stockings or easter eggs, jelly bellies are generally on the short list.
Jelly Belly is really Willy Wonka level, and maybe the closest to “Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans” from Harry Potter — buttered popcorn? bubblegum? juicy pear? chocolate? the flavors are way more complex than any standard jelly bean or other fruity or chewy candy: starburst, skittles, wine gums, etc.
I get the trial size for trick or treaters (roughly 10 jelly beans per pack) and they’re also a perfect size for portion control and to keep in your backpack/purse or the Advice: Car bin for longer trips for emergencies. For some reason there are a couple different listings on amazon:
Costco carries huge bags, but it’s hard for me to imagine under what scenario that would be a good idea 😅
At some point I’ll probably have a page dedicated to the best _______ for autistic folks, and jelly bellies will make the list; specifically, their 40 flavor clear gift box, where all the flavors are nicely separated into their own little cube. (their 50 flavor gift box was a christmas staple at my house, but there’s something extra about the clear box that puts it over the edge). They also have all sorts of themed offerings on their main website.
The “recipes” where you eat a few complementary flavors all at once are also a fun activity that’s oddly reminiscent of shots at a bachelorette party.
I’m a sucker for a factory tour, so if you find yourself in the Bay Area, it might be fun to take a quick trip to Fairfield.
