I often puzzle about why there are factories churning out second-rate scissors when we, as a civilization, have produced these perfect ones:
Scotch Precision Ultra Edge Scissors, 8 Inch
Scotch Brand Precision Ultra Edge Scissors, Left- or Right-Handed, 8 Inch, 3-Pack
Amazon.com : Scotch Brand Precision Ultra Edge Scissors, Left- or Right-Handed, 8 Inch, 3-Pack : Arts, Crafts & Sewing

Every time I go to a friend's house and find crappy scissors, a pack of these shows up at their door. Life is just better with tools that work. (though I do wish that they came in a small size because I also love having small scissors around — maybe these are good? (the bad reviews all seem to be parents freaking out about sending their boy children to school with purple scissors...)
The three pack is also available at Costco for an even better price.
Note: my dad insists that I use a box cutter for opening packages to keep my scissors sharp. I got this two-pack from Home Depot that are easy to flip open and closed, easy to change blades, and even have built in storage for extra blades. I keep the second one in my Advice: Car bin for longer trips.
