It can seem daunting at first, but if you’re having trouble keeping your space nice, one of the best motivators is to either hire a housecleaner or have house-guests once a month.
It’s not because either of them will tidy your house, but because you will tidy your house knowing that they're coming.
(Most cleaners will reliably clean all surfaces that don't have objects strewn across them, so you’ll tidy both to avoid their judgement and to get more bang for your buck.)
Bonus: have a home for all your objects, so that tidying doesn’t involve decision-making or further tasks:
A place for unpaid bills as well as for unsorted mail, a place for Amazon returns, a place for electronic device chargers, a place for clean unfolded laundry as well as dirty laundry, etc. I make great use of Plastic bins so that I can pretty easily sort things and then pull out the right ones for whatever project I’m in the middle of, so it’s not as costly to put things away.
