The Best Eggnog

Organic Valley’s original full-fat eggnog was the very best for over a decade. There’s been drama the last few years and I now recommend a mix(!)

The creamy base: 365 organic eggnog from Whole Foods

Cut with lighter, milkier eggnogs: organic valley low fat or Strauss organic eggnog

⚠️ Organic Valley decided not to produce eggnog for the 2021 or 2022 holiday seasons 😔 but they’re hinting that it will be back in 2023 🤞 Update: they’ve released a low-fat version in 2023 & 2024 that is apparently disappointing :/

(it’s not just me that’s obsessed with the original)

If you think you don’t like eggnog, maybe you just haven’t tried this one yet. I did a hardcore taste test over a decade ago and have yet to find a better alternative. It's so good, I never accept defeat if it's unavailable at my usual grocery stores.

This is worthy of a scavenger hunt (though I think you can pretty reliably find it at Whole Foods, so when/if it’s back in 2023 that’s where I’ll check first).

(The only other one I would be willing to serve to guests is the one from TJ's, but it's a distant second. I’m looking forward to trying Alexandre Family Farm’s A2 version this year for 🐄Dairy sensitivity?)

To turn it into a cocktail, just add brandy (or rum?) Update: it turns out that you can sort of create eggnog in reverse by adding milk to the delicious 🎄TJ's Egg Nog Liqueur from TJ’s.

I’ve come to dust the top with nutmeg (freshly grated on a microplane if possible); just don’t overdo or it will be gritty.
