The first Twix I ever had was from a train station vending machine in Germany and I was smitten. But while the US version is delicious, it’s not the same.
These Belgian cookies, especially the chocolate covered ones, have that same ‘je ne sais quoi’ I remember.
(Knowing that these are traditional wheat-based cookies, I abstained for 5+ years before deciding that they’re just too good to discourage others from eating. Since this particular tin is imported from Europe, like many of the foreign treats at Cost Plus like Swedish ginger snaps with pumpkin dip, they don’t rely on US wheat, which seems to be particularly hard on digestive systems and more likely to have trace amounts of dangerous toxins.)
One thing that’s convenient is that there are two layers of cookies, wrapped separately. Each layer has 50+ individual cookies—plenty for a festive offering, while saving the second half for another occasion.
