Kitchen scissors are under-appreciated — I use them for so many things: opening packages of meat, cutting food into bite-sized pieces, cutting herbs; or even for things outside the kitchen: cutting zip ties, opening bags of potting soil, recutting bouquet stems, etc.
Look for a pair that come apart for easy cleaning. And consider following my Advice: Get a lot of the things you use in acquiring a few pairs so that you won’t be without while you’re waiting for the dishwasher to run.
I have at least half a dozen pairs at this point.

I like these OXO ones (so sharp and I like the slight serration). The finger holds are roomy and slightly textured. They also feel like they have good leverage and/or alignment—I never have to exert a lot of force (even on an industrial zip tie), and I don’t think their sharpness can take all the credit.
I’ve also tried these from Henckels (the top budget pick from America’s Test Kitchen). They’re less beefy/more refined, but I don’t reach for them as often. (They have to open all the way to come apart, which I personally dislike.)
