Probably worth getting a separate one for each space — waterproof for the kitchen and shower, optimizing for speech clarity where you listen to podcasts and base where you don't :P
Kitchen
Dance parties or podcasts or vibe setting can all go great with cooking.
If you have the budget, and don’t mind a smart speaker, I have been really impressed by the Apple Homepod — in particular, the voice clarity is the best I've ever encountered in a speaker (podcasts, audiobooks, calls, etc.)
Bathroom
I also have a UE Roll (replaced in their lineup by the UE miniroll) which is waterproof, has plenty of battery life, and beautifully straps to a shower curtain rod or neck of your showerhead.
The more powerful UE Boom can sit where your shampoo usually sits, and you can technically skip songs by whacking it, but at this point, I think I'd recommend you pass on extra features like that and instead bring in a waterproof phone (or find a way to put an old ipod/iphone in the shower without getting water directly on it so you can use its controls). I set mine on my Tiny cell phone stand in a corner, and it works great.
As of 2024, Wirecutter likes the new Wonderboom 4 of all the UE models (slightly bigger and fuller sounding than the miniroll). It does have a loop, so you could probably hook it onto something via an S-hook or shower curtain hook relatively easily too.
