Zvi seems to be doing a great job at keeping folks informed as new developments arise:
(total aside: his list of (not covid-related) blogs is a pretty good one)
I often share this video about masks when I encounter heated debates—I think it does a pretty good job of answering the common questions and conveys a pretty clear model for why masks are a good intervention.
Ventilation and Air purifiers are great low-cost things to keep in mind when planning gatherings because you can protect so many people passively.
I (conveniently) love restaurants with outdoor seating or with a 4th wall that opens.
😎🤓 I also think in high risk situations, eye protection makes sense both for Covid and any other respiratory infections. At work, we recommend our teammates wear glasses at events where people are in close clusters, speaking loudly over the din. They make blue blocking ones that are cheap and widely available.
(I’ve seen a study where people who wear glasses were something like 10-15% less likely to get covid, but mostly I just think it makes sense—try to avoid getting bits of spittle in your eyes 😅)
Bonus points for developing a habit of not touching your eyes/nose/face with your hands (again, not covid specific, these are just vulnerable entry points). And learn to track when you’re touching germ hotspots, e.g. handles of various types.
I should have a page on “what to do if you get covid” (definitely something you would know about if we were friends, and is the kind of thing I’d be happy if someone used the Contact me function for) but in the meantime: #1 as soon as you start to suspect you’ve been exposed/are showing symptoms use Zinc Lozenges to prevent/shorten colds (or other respiratory infections, e.g. covid), #2 try to get Paxlovid if you test positive, and then check out the things on these lists:
Here’s a curated list of articles for understanding the basics of the pandemic:
This post is helpful for thinking about how coronavirus particles actually spread. It covers many scenarios with simple numbers in order to help make it easier to think about:
