These have become surprisingly difficult to find—they’re a throwback candy from the 1940s called “reception sticks”.
There are two classics made by Bogdon’s:
- Peppermint poles
- Double dip mint
I usually get peppermint poles at World Market, but they didn’t carry them in 2023 :/
They can be served with hot cocoa or added to wrapped presents with the bow.
Delicious and fun alternative to candy canes.
Update: Bogdon’s was purchased by Richardson Foods in 2009. In 2014 they started taking out loans and ultimately all sorts of drama ensued, which ultimately seems to have resulted in shutting down their business and depriving the world of reception sticks. 😢
World Market and Williams Sonoma both have something similar for the holidays, but they look much thicker :/ But maybe worth trying?
