Singing is such a good thing! You should definitely do it. Your singing won't sound like other people's, and that's fine — you're expressing yourself in a way that's unique to you.
Tip: find songs that are in your range.
Reba McEntire says (even when advising people who want this as a career!)
"You don’t have to be the greatest singer in the world to go pursue singing. And if someone says, “you know, you’re not that good of a singer” if you find the song that matches your ability, you could have a monster hit.
I don’t think range is that important, for an overall career in country music […] because if you have a 1.5 - 2 octave range and you find the songs that workout great, that’s your range, that’s perfect for you.
I don’t think there’s a set rule, I don’t think there has to be a maximum, a minimum. It’s whatever fits you, whatever floats your boat. Whatever works for you is the perfect thing."
Tip: seize singing opportunities:
Whenever ‘tis the season, take advantage and sing some Christmas songs, ideally with your family or friends, but even just in your room while wrapping presents is great.
